Volunteer Levy

Introduction of Volunteer Levy at Commercial Hockey Club

Sports clubs, including Commercial Hockey Club, are run by and rely heavily on volunteers to maintain operations and enhance member experiences. However, attracting and retaining volunteers is a significant challenge. To address this, we have introduced a Volunteer Levy to improve volunteer engagement and  support club activities

What is a Volunteer Levy?

A volunteer levy is a financial contribution from members to support the cost of attracting and managing volunteers. The funds will be used to compensate or incentivise volunteers in roles like committee positions, coaches, managers, and general tasks (e.g. canteen, grounds duty, social media). The levy will be refundable to members who actively participate in these volunteer roles.

Benefits of a Volunteer Levy

Sustainability: Helps ensure ongoing volunteer engagement, as there is currently insufficient funding from fees and sponsorships.

Incentivisation: Members contributing financially are more likely to participate in volunteer activities.

Equity & Fairness: Shares the financial responsibility for volunteer programs fairly among all members, especially for those with limited time for volunteering.

How will it work?

A Volunteer Levy of $90 per player will be introduced, with a maximum of 3 levies per family. To qualify for a refund, members must complete a volunteer role for the season or contribute at least 3 hours per player.

Volunteer Roles:

  • Ratified Committee positions (e.g. including Management, Players Committee Chairs and Coordinators)
  • Coaches, Managers, Canteen, Bunnings BBQ, Working Bees, Downey Park duties, and more.
  • Additional activities must be approved by the Management Committee prior to completion.

Additional Information:

  • The levy is required to be paid alongside registration fees before the season begins.
  • The levy will not apply to non-playing parent club registrations.
  • Refunds are available only if volunteer hours are completed (with certain activities like providing halftime snacks not qualifying).

Refund Process

This structure aims to balance financial contributions and active participation in club activities, ensuring fairness and sustainability.
